I'm the biggest dog lover in the world, but this is obviously too dangerous for that baby.

Not saying this is child abuse, just kinda careless... I mean I'm sure the dog wouldn't mean any harm but it's huge and heavy and that is a baby. If something startled that dog and it got up quick that baby's back might not handle the pressure... just sayin'. No harm in being overly cautious on this one people. If the dog however is extremely gentle and cautious of the fragility of the child then I guess, let'r rip.

NOT a safe thing to do. Cute? Yes. Cuddly? Yes. But you def shouldn't do that. Like others have said this is a dominance thing - the dog doesn't seem to show aggression but it's still trying to be alpha over the baby (new member to the family "pack").

Also, what if the dog saw a squirrel or something behind the owners and rushed to it, trampling the baby? Sounds silly but things like this are totally possible. Mistakes/accidents are always a second away.

Why the fuk is everyone making such a big deal about these photos? The owners of the dog are the ones who know how he is. And as you can tell from looking at the pictures the dog is obviously in a playfull state (low front, high rear) and is not showing ANY signs of agression. so why bitch and moan? leave em, they look happy

The photos are very cute and I enjoy them as well. BUT, by the time the dog shows aggression, it is too late.

If you think a child's life is no big deal, then I hope you don't have a kid.

Dog bites occur thousands of times a day and often-times by dogs that never previously have shown aggression. Most dog owners have absolutely NO clue about animal behavior and what to look for. Everybody seems to be anthropomorphizing their pet and seem to think that they understand the dog's behavior as if it could directly be related to their own. Sadly it is not the case. Pack hierarchical behavior is not generally shown in humans with the major exception of street gangs. These photos, as cute as they are, demonstrate pack hierarchical behavior in spades.

I am not interested in a flame war. The evidence is out there and easily found with a little effort.

For all the idiots calling each other idiots. I work with many animal behavior experts (through my veterinary laboratory) and this is pure dominance behavior. The dog is treating the baby as a puppy and establishing its dominance by pushing the baby to the ground and holding the paw over the baby. Yes, the dog is not likely to intend harm but he is definitely exerting dominance as he would a fellow member of the pack. If you give the dog permission to dominate, it can and often does end in someone being hurt and a dog being put down as a "biter".

If you can't recognize this, you are specifically the problem. The public needs to be made aware that the dog needs to understand his place in the family or otherwise (depending on the dog's personality) he will continue to try for alpha position until someone gets hurt.

Pitt-bulls are among the sweetest dogs ever but are illegal in many states and countries do to their being used in fighting and their general mishandling. <http: www.animalparenting.com=""></http:>

Does this dog look aggressive? I think not. Most dogs are good tempered, and obviously the parents of this baby know what kind of dog he is. Idiots.

Ohmygod. Seriously, this is photography. Did anyone report a dead baby? No. So, take the picture for what it is worth and move on. I think it is lovely personally.

Allstargrl818, you are totally wrong. I was attacked by a mastiff when I was about 13. All I was trying to do was give it a treat. You cannot make generalizations about any breed of dog or about other animals for that matter. They all have the potential to be dangerous. I will say however that when raised correctly any dog can be gentle and loving. As cute as this is, you can't assume that the dog won't harm the baby, whether accidentally or on purpose. You should never leave your child alone with your pets. There's just too much risk involved.

it def IS touching to look at but it is an "ownership" thing... as much as I snuggle w my dog, I wont allow her to put her front paws and "stand" on me or dominate any human. (and she is only 20 lbs) so as precious as it is, this dog "owns" this baby. I def wouldnt say it's "child abuse" its just ignorance is all.

nah, sitting on the baby would be dominating. my family keeps a lot of big dogs (and i've had a pit bull since I was 16). this seems okay.

Folks, the dog is a gentle giant. I would, however, keep an eye on the pair for the simple fact that the dog is very large and could accidentally crush the baby. That said, it looks like the dog is being fairly gentle, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

This reminds me of something. My friend's sister's baby (her first nephew) was mauled to death by their own dog when he was 8 months old. True story.

He's not cuddling the baby, hes using his body and size to dominate it. Very dangerous thing to let happen. Gonna end in a bite.

Um, while I don't agree with the previous Anonymous' statement, "never never trust a dog" - I still would never trust a large dog, no matter how friendly, trained and/or gentle around a fragile infant whose bones could be easily broken should the dog accidentally SLIP or STEP on it.. Dogs are NOT humans; please remember this. As for Anonymous' reply about spanking children and whatnot - I don't care if you were or were not spanked as a kid - HITTING a child IS abuse. Light yourself on fire if you plan to do this with your unruly children. If their behavior gets to the point where you feel you have to STRIKE them, then YOU have done something wrong. Blame your horrible parenting and do better - don't hit your kids. If you do, maybe YOU should light yourself on fire. Friggen douche.

OMG the dog was only playing, I have no idea why he almost took the kids head off. You see shit on the news like this on the time. Just no common sense or just plain stupid.
