There certainly were car phones as early as the late 40s - though you had to give the number to an operator - the dial didn't start to show up in the US till 65 or so. I remember when my granddad upgraded to the cool new toy.

I hope that nobody actually thinks there was a car-phone in the 50s. I'm not certain it is correct but I read elsewhere that this is a promo shot from a British television series.
